{"id":2192,"date":"2026-05-08T11:59:41","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T11:59:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fip-koeln.de\/?page_id=2192"},"modified":"2026-06-11T18:54:45","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T18:54:45","slug":"venus-und-jupiter-atmosphaere","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fip-koeln.de\/en_us\/missionen-und-ziele\/dfg-projekte\/venus-und-jupiter-atmosphaere\/","title":{"rendered":"The exploration of the Venus and Jupiter atmospheres by radio occultations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\"><strong>Extending our\nunderstanding of the planetary atmospheres beyond Fresnel scale resolution and spherical\nsymmetry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">This project focuses on the investigation of planetary atmospheres through radio occultation\nexperiments, with particular emphasis on Venus and Jupiter. <br>It supports the development of\nadvanced methods for the simulation and analysis of atmospheric radio sounding observations and <br>contributes to the scientific preparation of future missions such as ESA\u2019s\nJUICE and EnVision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A central aspect of the project is the development of 2D and 3D raytracing software to model\nthe propagation of radio signals through <br>non-spherically symmetric atmospheres. This allows a more detailed analysis of complex atmospheric and ionospheric regions, such as the Venus\nterminator or <br>the oblate atmosphere of Jupiter.
